Biography
Samuelle Grande, Night Owl,. 2024, Oil on canvas, 22 x 28" (71.1 x 55.8 cm)
Samuelle Grande is a Canadian painter who creates visual scenarios at the intersection of memory and imagination, drawing from an array of found materials and her own personal experiences. Much like short stories, her paintings are playful and enigmatic, inviting viewers to explore layered narratives within each composition. Driven by an interest in the psychology of painting and its capacity to evoke emotion, Grande’s practice offers an alternative, embodied form of knowledge that is haptic and deeply felt. Rooted in considerations of body politics and the often-unseen dynamics of labour, her art responds to the ways personal and collective bodies navigate social structures.
She is the recipient of two Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Grants (2024, 2023), the Canadian Federation of University Women Award (2023), and the Tony Sherman Graduate Scholarship (2021), among other awards. Grande is part of the Curated Artists Registry at White Columns, New York.
